HFS receives $5 million grant from Day 1 Families Fund

OMAHA, Neb. — Today, Heartland Family Service (HFS) announced it has been selected to receive a $5 million grant from the Day 1 Families Fund to expand innovative solutions to end homelessness.

HFS will use this grant to expand prevention and diversion services; dedicate rapid rehousing resources specifically to families with children; and develop a transition support team to meet needs related to children’s services, peer support, and income and workforce supports to support resilience and expand skills that keep families housed.

HFS assists families displaced from Yale Park Apartments

Heartland Family Service (HFS) has been assisting the families of Yale Park Apartments since Thursday, September 20, with their housing needs after the apartment units were vacated due to the 2,500 health code violations the City of Omaha discovered. As a result, almost 500 people, nearly all of them refugees, were forced to leave their homes. Many of them moved into temporary shelters at the Adams and Columbus Park Community Centers, while others stayed with friends and family.

Two HFS donation centers now closed

Effective immediately, Heartland Family Service (HFS) will no longer operate the Sarpy Donation Center at their Sarpy Office, located at 302 American Parkway in Papillion. The Career Clothing Closet at their Central Adminstration Office is also closed.
