Salute to Families 2023

For almost 40 years, Heartland Family Service has been hosting this event to celebrate strong families and individuals in the community who place a high priority on building and strengthening their bonds, while encouraging individual growth and community involvement.

Join us at our Salute to Families event as we honor these families and family advocates.

Awarded Categories & Criteria

Family – Heartland Family Service is a non-sectarian organization and celebrates diversity in family structures, from two-parent and single-parent households to blended, adoptive, and extended families. Past recipients have been of a variety of ancestry, socioeconomic status, religion, and sexual orientation. The only common features among honorees are an outstanding commitment to maintaining a family-centered culture and fostering a healthy mind, body, and spirit for each and every family member.

  • Commitment to Family – Those who spend time together in shared activities that strengthen their family relationship and help children learn about life in general. In addition, emphasis is placed on the individual growth of each family member.
  • Challenged & Successful Family – Those who have faced an obstacle or challenge that has affected their family to a significant degree, and have still maintained a strong family life. Examples might include divorce, major illness, natural catastrophe, or death of a loved one.
  • Community Service Family – Those who have offered considerable volunteer service, and have encouraged their children to learn about and accept responsibilities toward others.

Family Advocate – Those individuals, organizations, or groups who have worked tirelessly to uplift and strengthen children and families. They take a leadership role in presenting legislation, initiating organizational efforts, or raising awareness for issues in our community.
