
The Heartland Family Service Prime for Life – OWI/DUI Course informs participants about the various consequences and issues associated with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offences. The presentation covers harmful effects that can be caused by alcohol and/or drug use on an individual’s physical, emotional, and mental health.
Heartland Family Service will notify the Iowa DOT or the Iowa Department of Education for each participant that successfully completes the Prime for Life – OWI/DUI Course.
This course meets the requirements for an Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) 12-hour DUI/OWI course, as required by Iowa Codes 32IJ.17 (2a) and 32IJ2 (2a4). It is approved by the Iowa DOT, and is appropriate for court referrals for OWI/DUI offenders.
Prime for Life – OWI/DUI Course criteria for success:
• Begin the program on the assigned date
• Attend both Friday (4-8 p.m.) and Saturday (8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) classes
• Participate in in-class discussions and complete all in-class activities
Course includes:

• Social, emotional, financial, and spiritual impacts
• Psycho-pharmacology
• Progression to addiction
• Recovery process
