The Heartland Family Service OWI/DUI Course is comprised of lecture sessions and self-assessment activities designed to inform participants about various consequences and issues associated with alcohol and/or drug use.
Heartland Family Service will notify the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) or Education for each student that successfully completes the OWI/DUI Course.
This course meets the requirements for a 12-hour Driving Under the Influence (DUI/OWI) course required by the Iowa Code 32IJ.17 (2a) and 32IJ2 (2a4). This course is IOWA DOT-approved and is appropriate for court referrals for OWI/DUI offenders.
OWI/DUI Course success criteria:
• Begin the program on the assigned date
• Attend Friday (4-8 p.m.) and Saturday (8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) classes
• Participate in class discussion and complete all in-class activities
• Physical and mental effects
• Social, emotional, financial, and spiritual impacts
• Progression to addiction
• Recovery process
