The Heartland Family Service One Oak program is a therapeutic day school for at-risk children with behavioral or mental health challenges. Students are referred by local school districts when they are no longer able to grow in their current school environment.
One Oak features individual, group, and family therapeutic services facilitated by our experienced, licensed mental health counselors. A variety of trauma-informed care* and evidence-based practices* are used, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support and Social and Emotional Learning, to help improve a child’s ability to learn and thrive in an educational setting. One Oak also provides individualized academic support so each child is well-prepared and on-track to meet educational standards, with the goal of returning to their referring school.
Located on our North Omaha Intergenerational Human Services Campus, One Oak is housed in a historical mid-century building with abundant natural light, a centrally located outdoor classroom, gymnasium, outdoor basketball court, playground, and community garden. Our facility also features a game room, library, and mindfulness center to better support our clients’ emotional, occupational, and academic needs.
*Evidence-based practices are scientifically proven effective.
**Trauma-informed care is practicing sensitivity to the effects of trauma in other’s lives.
