Refugee Advocate

The Heartland Family Service Refugee Advocate program addresses the problem of Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) within the juvenile justice system for the refugee population of Douglas County. The Refugee Advocate program also provides family support services that focus on preserving the family unit or reunifying the youth with his or her parents, foster family, grandparents, guardian, or primary caregiver. This is accomplished by identifying their strengths and weaknesses to set goals.

Eligibility: Referral-based through Juvenile Assessment Center and Nebraska Youth Probation Office; pertains to families who are in child welfare or Juvenile Justice System. Services are offered in Douglas County, NE.
