Positive Parenting Group

Through the Heartland Family Service Positive Parenting Group’s proven and effective parent education programming, socially and economically challenged families are engaged in improving their parenting skills and creating stronger families. Classes are offered in English, Spanish, and Karen/Burmese.

The Nurturing Parenting Program is an innovative curriculum designed to empower parents and help them acquire specific knowledge and skills that will improve their overall parenting. It emphasizes the importance of raising children in a warm, trusting, and caring household. NPP’s primary goal is to teach parents to promote and nourish themselves, their children, and their environment. To this end, the Nurturing Parenting Program addresses five primary issues:
1. Age-appropriate expectations & self worth
2. Responding empathetically to your child’s needs
3. Disciplining children with dignity
4. Self-awareness & appropriate family roles
5. Empowering children and adults

Positive Parenting Group also utilizes Circle of Security, which promotes secure attachment. Circle of Security is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. This material helps caregivers understand their child’s emotional world and support their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions.

Eligibility: Current or expectant parents/caregivers. Services are provided in the Omaha Metro area.
