Developing a Better Today (DBT for Adolescents) is a twelve-session, intensive therapy group for teens ages 14-18 years who are stressed due to emotional and interpersonal problems including impulsive behavior, anger, mood swings, conflicts with others, self-injury or suicidal thoughts or actions. The focus is to work on balancing change and acceptance in life in order to make it “a life worth living.” Teens learn hand-on skills to develop their ability to solve interpersonal problems, to self-regulate their thoughts and emotions, and to tolerate stress in life without impulsive, destructive behavior. Groups are ongoing, accepting new clients every four weeks. Teens must be participating in individual therapy to be accepted.
Managing Your Anger is an 8-session therapeutic group for adolescents. Open the door to look at and understand your anger. Learn about the cycles of anger and its triggers. Learn to use respectful and appropriate ways to deal with anger and keep self-control. After completion, the participant should be able to: identify and begin to set appropriate boundaries for self and others in a respectful and non-threatening way, identify anger cues and appropriate coping mechanisms, and understand and begin to utilize appropriate self-talk to maintain control.
