Abuse Victims
Specialized counseling is offered at our Safe Haven concealed shelter for women and children who are housed there as they transition into a new home and life. Extreme care is taken to protect the privacy and safety of the clients. Call the 24-hour crisis number at 1 (800) 523-3666 for information or protection.
Heartland Family Service therapists are located at Project Harmony to assist abused children and non-offending family members, and to follow up with them later to ensure they are recovering from the traumatic experience. In addition, professional therapy is available to the children at our two children's emergency shelters. Call 595-1326.
There is no fee for victims of abuse.
The primary focus of the Choosing Nonviolence Batterers Group is the treatment of the male batterer. The group advances the premise that domestic violence is a criminal activity and is learned behavior, and therefore, changeable. Batterers are to be held accountable for all acts of abuse and intimidating behavior, as they are solely responsible for their actions. The 25-week program challenges participants to explore how their use of power and control has affected their relationships and their lives.
Anger management techniques are included.
Groups meet weekly and each participant has a one-on-one monthly evaluation with the facilitator. This evaluation will be sent to the parole/probation officer, if applicable. The program fee is based on a sliding fee scale. For more information, call (402) 552-7400 or email info@heartlandfamilyservice.org
