WISH LISTS

You can help by selecting items from the “Wish Lists” of our different programs. These items are either given directly to the clients, or they provide a more comfortable or enriching experience for our clients as they participate in our programs and shelters.

Family Works Wish List

Family Works is a residential substance abuse treatment center for pregnant women and women who are parenting young children. It is a unique program design as it incorporates apartment living for the mothers and children with onsite treatment. Each mom has her own apartment unit, while the facility has common areas for group treatment work, staff offices, group lunches and activities.

Jefferson House Wish List

The Jefferson House provides emergency shelter care and group home services for children in the city of Fremont, NE, and surrounding communities. The children benefit from community-based services that allow them to attend their home school and continue to be near familiar people and surroundings. The well-trained professional staff offers a therapeutic program to help children get through their traumatic experiences.

Omaha Children’s Shelter Wish List

The Steve & Cheryl Wild Children’s Emergency Shelter is designed to meet the need of the State to find placement for children at risk of abuse and neglect at a moments’ notice -- often immediately after an investigation has been conducted and children have been removed from the home. The focus is on placing siblings, age birth to 18 years, in the same facility. While in this placement, the children’s emotional and physical needs are cared and the staff assists the State in reunifying the children with their families, or in recommending a protective placement for the children.

Safe Haven Wish List

Services at the Heartland Family Service Safe Haven Transitional Shelter are provided to victims of domestic violence as a means of protecting victims from the threat of further abuse. Residents may stay up to two years while they stabilize their living situation. Safe Haven residents are assisted by program staff to develop short and long -term planning goals such as securing employment or other financial assistance and seeking permanent housing.

Senior Center Wish List

The Senior Center supports the recreational, social and nutritional needs of low-come senior citizens in our community. Our center offers a variety of activities including classes, speakers, movies, discussion groups, exercise sessions, excursions, and parties, which are scheduled regularly every month. Seniors can gather for cards or bingo, and even have the option to go the grocery store. A nurse is available once a week to offer medical services and answer questions.

Solomon Girls Center Wish List

The Solomon Girls Center works with any girl 5 to 18 years of age and offers after-school and summer educational, cultural, social, and recreational programming. The mission of the Center is to offer activities and guidance that enable each girl to find her own identity; develop her potential; and achieve a sense of responsibility to herself, her family and her community. Activities promote skill development and provide assistance in dealing with the issues that challenge today’s girls and young women.

Career Clothing Closet Wish List

The primary purpose of the Heartland Family Service Career Clothing Closet is to help men and women transition into self-sustaining careers. Located at 6720 North 30th Street, the service is free and open to Heartland Family Service clients as well as those referred by other agencies, colleges and shelters throughout the metro area. Clients are given appropriate clothing for job interviews, plus a small wardrobe for starting a career or job training. Up-to-date styles are needed, and items that are cleaned and pressed are most welcome. Call (402) 457-7784 for more information.
