You can help by selecting items from the “Wish
Lists” of our different programs. These items are either
given directly to the clients, or they provide a more comfortable
or enriching experience for our clients as they participate in our
programs and shelters.
Family
Works Wish List
Family Works is a residential substance abuse treatment
center for pregnant women and women who are parenting young children.
It is a unique program design as it incorporates apartment living
for the mothers and children with onsite treatment. Each mom has
her own apartment unit, while the facility has common areas for
group treatment work, staff offices, group lunches and activities.
Jefferson
House Wish List
The Jefferson House provides emergency shelter care and group home
services for children in the city of Fremont, NE, and surrounding
communities. The children benefit from community-based services
that allow them to attend their home school and continue to be near
familiar people and surroundings. The well-trained professional
staff offers a therapeutic program to help children get through
their traumatic experiences.
Omaha Children’s
Shelter Wish List
The Steve & Cheryl Wild Children’s Emergency Shelter is
designed to meet the need of the State to find placement for children
at risk of abuse and neglect at a moments’ notice -- often
immediately after an investigation has been conducted and children
have been removed from the home. The focus is on placing siblings,
age birth to 18 years, in the same facility. While in this placement,
the children’s emotional and physical needs are cared and
the staff assists the State in reunifying the children with their
families, or in recommending a protective placement for the children.
Safe Haven Wish List
Services at the Heartland Family Service Safe Haven Transitional
Shelter are provided to victims of domestic violence as a means
of protecting victims from the threat of further abuse. Residents
may stay up to two years while they stabilize their living situation.
Safe Haven residents are assisted by program staff to develop short
and long -term planning goals such as securing employment or other
financial assistance and seeking permanent housing.
Senior Center Wish
List
The Senior Center supports the recreational, social and nutritional
needs of low-come senior citizens in our community. Our center offers
a variety of activities including classes, speakers, movies, discussion
groups, exercise sessions, excursions, and parties, which are scheduled
regularly every month. Seniors can gather for cards or bingo, and
even have the option to go the grocery store. A nurse is available
once a week to offer medical services and answer questions.
Solomon Girls Center
Wish List
The Solomon Girls Center works with any girl 5 to
18 years of age and offers after-school and summer educational,
cultural, social, and recreational programming. The mission of the
Center is to offer activities and guidance that enable each girl
to find her own identity; develop her potential; and achieve a sense
of responsibility to herself, her family and her community. Activities
promote skill development and provide assistance in dealing with
the issues that challenge today’s girls and young women.
Career Clothing Closet Wish List
The primary purpose of the Heartland Family Service
Career Clothing Closet is to help men and women transition into
self-sustaining careers. Located at 6720 North 30th Street, the
service is free and open to Heartland Family Service clients as
well as those referred by other agencies, colleges and shelters
throughout the metro area. Clients are given appropriate clothing
for job interviews, plus a small wardrobe for starting a career
or job training. Up-to-date styles are needed, and items that are
cleaned and pressed are most welcome. Call (402) 457-7784 for more
