Career Clothing Closet
The Career Clothing Closet provides business clothing to low-income
men and women going to an interview or attending a job fair. All
of the clothes received are donations from the community. Volunteers
are needed to help sort these donations.
Children’s Emergency
Services
Children’s Emergency Services (CES) provides crisis intervention
services for children who are victims of neglect and abuseThe children
stay here until a more permanent placement is found, or until they
can return to their homes. Volunteers are needed to assist with
homework, assist with fieldtrips, serve as a mentor to the children
and assist with clerical and sorting needs.
Clerical Assistance
Volunteers are needed to provide clerical assistance at most of
Heartland Family Service’s locations.

Family and Child Care Resource
Center
The Family and Child Care Resource Center is essentially a library
for parents and child care providers. The center provides books,
arts & crafts ideas and other resources to enhance the minds
of the children. Volunteers are needed to organize donations.
Family Works
Family Works is a residential addictions treatment program for pregnant
women and women with a baby under one year old, including her additional
children. The focus of the program is to provide a supportive, therapeutic
environment that helps the mother become sober, learn how to live
without drugs and/or alcohol, and to become a stronger parent for
her children. The woman’s relationship with her own family
is addressed in order to repair the familial bond by building trust
and support. Volunteers are needed to provide child care while the
mother is in treatment sessions.
HALO
Healthy Alternatives for Little Ones (HALO) helps children ages
3-6 understand the complexities of “health” and “healthy
choices” by putting these concepts into terms they can understand.
The curriculum focuses on empowering young children to make healthy
choices for their futures through social and emotional health, drug
prevention, nutrition and physical activity. Volunteers are needed
to provide clerical assistance.
Jefferson House
The Jefferson House was established for youth birth to 18 and their
siblings to provide temporary placement after they leave their home
and while they wait for a more permanent placement. Most of the
youth is placed in the shelter because these children are products
of abuse and neglect, a chaotic home environment or are re-entering
the community from a more restrictive placement. The staff provides
24-hour supervision, crisis stabilization, an on-site school, a
behavior management program, and so much more. Volunteers are needed
to assist with home repairs and cleaning, assist youth with tutoring
and crafts and to take youth on field trips.
Positive Parenting Group
This 12-week program is for parents who want to learn more about
the daily challenges of child-rearing and how to handle these challenges
in a healthy, positive way. Families may join at any time and leave
when they have met their goals. Volunteers are needed to assist
with childcare during group sessions.
Safe Haven Domestic Abuse
Shelter
The purpose of our facility is to provide abused women and their
children with a safe, supportive, and violence-free environment.
The facility is staffed 24 hours a day and all services are provided
at no cost. These women and children may reside in our emergency
shelter for 6-weeks. After the initial 6-week crisis stay, they
will have the opportunity to apply for the transitional program.
The transition program has a maximum length of stay of two years
provided that they comply with the guidelines of that program. To
insure the safety, confidentiality, and well being of all residents
and staff, we have developed some basic guidelines that everyone
must follow. Volunteers are needed to provide childcare during group
sessions and help sort donations.
Sarpy Donations Center
The Sarpy Donations Center is Heartland Family Service’s sorting
space for donations. These donations are then distributed to our
programs or clients who are in need of them. Volunteers are always
needed to sort and organize donations.
Senior Center
The Senior Center offers programs to enhance the quality of life
for our older citizens. Heartland Family Service helps them retain/regain
their physical, social and mental well-being. The Senior Center
supports the recreational, social and nutritional needs of senior
citizens over 60 years of age. The center offers these area residents
several different activities including classes, speakers, movies,
exercise sessions, excursions and parties. Volunteers are needed
to lead craft classes, games, etc.
