National Family Week
is Celebrated Annually Across the nation
During Thanksgiving week November 18-24, 2007
National Family Week: Connections Count embraces the premise that children live better lives when their families are strong, and families are strong when they live in communities that connect them to economic opportunities, social networks, and services. These "connections," celebrated during
National Family Week, include access to reliable transportation, employment opportunities, education, childcare, and support from community networks and institutions. The President of the United States has proclaimed National Family Week since 1977.

To observe National Family Week, celebrated annually during Thanksgiving Week, families are encouraged to take time during the busy holiday season to focus on the importance of their own family. Dinner conversations, family meetings and outings are great times to get the kids to talk about what family qualities
are important to them. Parents might consider completing the Family Report Card to assess the strength of their own family, and to learn more about the qualities of a strong family.
The Alliance for Children and Families is the Family Week national sponsor, and coordinates activities and proclamations throughout the nation. For more information on events in other communities, visit www.nationalfamilyweek.org. National Family Week is made through the generous support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Family Week proclamations are made by the governors of Iowa and Nebraska, and a joint proclamation for Family Week of the Midlands is signed by the twelve mayors of Council Bluffs, Carter Lake, Glenwood and Logan in Iowa; and Bellevue, Fremont, Gretna, Omaha, Papillion, La Vista, Ralston, and Plattsmouth in Nebraska. This is the only joint proclamation signed annually by so many metro area mayors.
To kick off the week, Heartland Family Service presents "Salute to Families" events in Council Bluffs and Omaha. They honor four families each in the categories of Leadership, Community Service, Challenged & Successful and Commitment to Family.
