“Strike A Chord,” Heartland Family Service’s first ever Dueling Pianos Event was held on August 13, 2005 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The event was sponsored by Ameristar Casino Hotel, Harrah’s Casino & Hotel and Doll Distributing, Inc. Proceeds from this event will benefit children and families who receive services from Heartland Family Service in southwest Iowa.
Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilbur emceed the event. Pianopalooza, a dueling pianos act, entertained our 185 guestsfor the evening. The guests
also enjoyed a ‘lyrical adjustment’ to the song Piano Man, which was changed to incorporate event sponsors, attendees, our celebrity artists and other members of the Council Bluffs community. A group sing-along to Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville” was also a hit.
Guests dined on exotic food and drink combinations from around the world, and participated in a silent auction for donated treasures, including a pheasant hunt at the cabin of Del & Judy Brehmer, tickets to an Indigo Girls concert at Stir, not to mention three magnums of a one of a kind Jerry Garcia merlot and cabernet sauvignon.
Jane Bell, Bonnie Gioiello, Mayor Tom Hanafan, Reed Morgan, Bob Mundt and Kathy Whitson contributed their artistic talents to the evening by painting original pieces of art for the event. Jane Bell was awarded “The People’s Choice” art award for her work, “Life Unfocused From the Group Art Period.” Guests voted for their favorite painting by placing money in the corresponding artist’s jar. The evening concluded with the live auction of these wonderful pieces of art.
