Strike a Chord 2, a fundraiser for Southwest Iowa families served by Heartland Family Service featured a performance by dueling pianos sensation Zany Pianos.

Master of Ceremonies Matt Wilbur displays the painted squirrel that won the People’s Choice Award for Gaye Gullo, general manager of Harrah's Casino & Hotel/Horseshoe

The event was held Saturday, August 5, at Ameristar Casino Hotel, and raised more than $30,000 for the agency’s programs in Southwest Iowa.

In addition to the lively musical program, a number of local “celebrity artists” were selected by popular demand to create original “works of art” to be judged and then auctioned that evening. Gaye Gullo, general manager of Harrah's Casino & Hotel/Horseshoe, won the People’s Choice Award for her artistic talent. The other celebrities included event host Doug Coziahr, operations manager of Bach Petroleum (Fill & Food); Dr. Dan Kinney, President of Iowa Western Community College; Lynne Branigan, international sales manager for Warren Distribution; and Iowa State Representative Doug Struyk of Struyk Turf Maintenance, Inc. The artists’ work features squirrels involving legendary Council Bluffs themes.

High Kicking Ladies! Marcia Antworth, Tara Slevin, Ann Belt, Lisa Gronstal,
Dawn Bashara, Nancy Schulze, Jane Bell & Liz Doll.

Pottawattamie County Attorney Matt Wilber once again provided spirited commentary throughout the evening as master of ceremonies. An enticing variety of international foods and spirits from England, Sweden, Italy and Thailand were served. Live and silent auctions provided a large variety of unique gifts and services in high demand.
