National Family Week Encourages Families to Play Together
Families are encouraged to take time during the busy holiday season to focus on the importance of their own family. Dinner conversations, family meetings or outings are great times to get the kids to talk about what family qualities are important to them. Parents might consider completing the Family Report Card (Link to: Family Report Card (Adam: On the website now. We have to update it.)to assess the strength of their own family, and to learn more about the qualities of a strong family.
On November 18, 2003, Bruce Crevier, his wife Diane and their eight children entertained more than 450 parents and children on November 18 at Wilson Junior High School. This family of “spin-tacular” performers has traveled all over the world using basketballs, unicycles and music to share positive messages in a fun and entertaining manner.
This free event also featured local sports mascots Billy Blue Jay from Creighton University, The Reiver from Iowa Western Community College Reivers, and Joe from the River City Lancers, who skated on rollerblades. Master of ceremonies was Rich Roberts, announcer for the River City Lancers. Mayor Tom Hannafan greeted the audience and spoke of the value of strong family life in Southwest Iowa.
The free Spin-Tacular Basketball and Unicycle Stunt Show was a National Family Week kickoff event, sponsored in Iowa by Family Service and Children’s Square, USA. Every year, Family Week is celebrated across the nation during Thanksgiving Week.
