Heartland Family Service’s 2006 fundraising gala, “All Jazzed Up,” was held February 18 at the Doubletree Hotel Downtown. About 450 people attended and raised approximately $175,000 for the clients of Heartland Family Service.
A large variety of live and silent auctions kept the audience alert to purchase their favorite items. The Rob Long Group provided jazz entertainment during the silent auction. Once again, this year’s event décor was created by Kyle Robino of Old Market Habitat. Four eight-foot treble clefs around the room anchored the centerpieces that featured 78 rpm records and trumpets. Huge purple and gold balloons shaped like musical notes and tubas surrounded the tables.
Ken and Ann Stinson served as honorary chairmen of this year’s Gala. Co-chairmen were Diane Bailey, Michele Grewcock and Deb Whitman. Debbie Fraser, Heartland Family Service Friends president and Dan Gomez, chairman of the agency’s board of directors, introduced special guests and conducted the raffle drawing. More than 50 additional Heartland Family Service Friends volunteers contributed to the planning and implementation of the agency’s major fundraising event.
Special guests in attendance included Heartland Family Service Trustees Ken Stinson, Alan D’Agosto and Diane Nelson, who attended with her husband, Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson. Also in attendance was Rivkah Sass, Director of the Omaha Public Library, who was recently honored as 2006 Librarian of the Year by the Library Journal.
