“My Big Fat Greek Gala” was the theme of our 2004 fundraiser held February 21 at the Mutual of Omaha Dome. More than 350 people attended and raised over $100,000 for the clients of Heartland Family Service, said Kelly Thedinger, Gala chairman. Live and silent auctions kept the audience entranced, all to benefit the children and families served by the agency.
The live auction included out-of-town trips, a hot air balloon ride, and a full-size Ms. Pac Man arcade video game. Dr. Britt and Kelly Thedinger offered a gourmet dinner for eight
at their lovely home, and several guests contributed to the monthly grocery bills at the Heartland Family Service Safe Haven domestic abuse shelter.
Carol and Rick Russell served as honorary chairmen of this year’s Gala. Live auction chairman was Stephanie Horeis. More than two hundred live and silent auction items were provided through the efforts of the Heartland Family Service Friends guild board and executive board. The Student League and Junior Friends members (several dressed in bridesmaid’s dresses) assisted with the auction and raffle.
The Gala rounds out the 2003/2004 formal activities of the Heartland Family Service Friends Guild, which included the Safe Haven Golf Event, Student League, Salute to Families Recognition Banquet, and Junior Friends. “This is a fun and hardworking group of volunteers,” said Pete Tulipana, president and CEO of Heartland Family Service. “We are indeed fortunate for their commitment to helping the children and families we serve.”
